Floridian duo The Heart & The Brain is the musical brainchild of producer TzariZM aka The Heart, and heart-driven lyricist Vis Major, aka the Brain. Both link thoughtful lyrics with passionate production on their first full length, following their 'MbodiMeNT EP’ from 2007. Not an instant classic, but a measured mixture of soul and consciousness.
This album is long –almost two hours- but at the other hand this record is to be consumed when you’re chilling, relaxing, when you have a few hours to spare, quoi. Not every track is as entertaining as the other, but the record never becomes boring. The amount of songs is interrupted by a good bit of instrumentals that keep the listener attentive, and distract him from the whole while letting him take a pause in the head. Plus it’s not even that the tracks are much alike. The grimey tone on 'Live Sh!t' is clearly different than the atmosphere of a track like 'Ol’ Man' and 'Serious' with great features by Supastition and Akrobatik.
No heart without a brain and so the Florida duo of producer Tzarizm and Vis Major click well together, having an assumable decent amount of collaborative years behind their backs. ‘MbodiMeNT’ has turned out a decent album with hip-hop in the flesh, driven by a boom-bap state of mind!
